Selangor Open Kombat Taekwondo & Martial Arts Championship 2026 Draws Nearly 1,000 Participants
The championship was officially opened by Brig. Gen. (R) Dato' Hj Mislan Bin Anuar, President of Kombat Taekwondo Malaysia, who commended the organizers, officials, coaches, athletes, and supporters for their commitment to developing the sport and fostering a strong martial arts community.
The event was sanctioned by the Professional Taekwondo Federation (PTF) and supervised by Grandmaster Kevin Woon, PTF Technical Delegate and PTF Vice President, ensuring that the competition was conducted in accordance with international standards and technical regulations.
A major highlight of this year's championship was the debut of the Kombat Taekwondo Major League, following the successful introduction of the Minor League competition in 2025. The addition of the Major League platform represents a significant step forward in providing athletes with a structured pathway for competitive development and higher-level competition.
The championship attracted approximately 1,000 participants over the two-day event, making it one of the largest Kombat Taekwondo and martial arts gatherings in the region. The substantial increase in participation compared to the previous year reflects the growing popularity of Kombat Taekwondo and the rising interest in combat sports among athletes, clubs, and martial arts enthusiasts across Malaysia.
Speaking on the success of the event, organizers noted that the encouraging turnout demonstrates the strong momentum behind Kombat Taekwondo's development and the effectiveness of ongoing efforts to promote the sport at grassroots and elite levels.

The championship featured competitors from various age groups and divisions, showcasing exceptional talent, sportsmanship, discipline, and fighting spirit throughout the tournament.
Kombat Taekwondo Malaysia extends its appreciation to all participating athletes, coaches, referees, officials, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters whose contributions made the championship a resounding success. The federation remains committed to expanding opportunities for athletes and strengthening Malaysia's position as a leading hub for Kombat Taekwondo and martial arts in the region.
